The Many Ways Dr. Ghosh Gives to Marengo

For decades, Dr. Ghosh has led the way in delivering top-quality cancer care in our community. He’s known locally for his efforts to ensure patients have access to the best cancer-fighting treatment and technology.

Financial Support for Rural Healthcare

He’s taken that commitment to the next level in Marengo, Iowa. In 2016, he presented Marengo Memorial Hospital - now Compass Memorial Healthcare - with a check for $100,000 toward its building and renovation project. Why Marengo? Since 2011, Dr. Ghosh has served as the oncology and hematology specialist at CMH, providing rural residents with expert care close to home.

Cancer Care for Rural Patients

Since Dr. Ghosh started the program, Compass Memorial Hospital can barely keep up with the demand for his services. Tiny Welsh, outpatient clinics nurse manager at CMH says, “Dr. Ghosh’s reputation in the Cedar Rapids corridor is second to none. When he agreed to come to our hospital and lead the development and implementation of an oncology program, we knew a great relationship had been born.”

“He is a joy to work with and his patients truly love him, as do we. They appreciate how much time he spends explaining things. If they have a financial need, he connects them with assistance through his Cedar Rapids office, where the whole team is amazing.”

Tina added that patients really value his support in expediting appointments with other physicians and specialists. Dr. Ghosh and his staff help cut through the red tape so patients can be seen quickly.

Dr. Ghosh’s investment is a big boon to the oncology program at CMH. It has been put to use in the development of a new outpatient clinic area and a dedicated infusion room for chemotherapy and other infusion therapies.

This project is important to me because wherever I have been – India, the United States, Marengo – we do better when we support one another.

“We are touched by Dr. Ghosh’s generosity, his passion for the delivery of rural health care and for the citizens of our rural area,” said CMH’s chief executive officer Barry Goettsch in accepting the gift. “This act of generosity is just one example of the type of human being Dr. Ghosh is that makes the him the greatest gift to us and so many patients in the greater Cedar Rapids area.”

Dr. Ghosh responds with characteristic focus on the greater good. “This project is important to me,” he said, “because wherever I have been – India, the United States, Marengo – we do better when we support one another.”
